These seasons all began May 15 in the East Pacific and June 1 in the Central Pacific and ended November 30. These dates conventionally delimit the period of time when tropical cyclones form in these regions.
Seasons
1832 Pacific hurricane season
This is the first known East Pacific tropical cyclone. In December of this year it was tracked from near the Big Island to a point near Johnston Atoll.
1839 Pacific hurricane season
On November 1, a hurricane struck near Mazatlan, doing heavy damage to boats and watercraft.
1840 Pacific hurricane season
On November 1, a hurricane hit San Blas, where it did heavy damage to shipping.
1843 Pacific hurricane season
On September 23, German shipping logs recorded a cyclone near 17°N 147°W. Its path was towards the Big Island of Hawaii, but what happened to it is unknown.
1855 Pacific hurricane season
There was possibly a storm that formed in the Pacific and crossed into the Gulf of Mexico.
1858 Pacific hurricane season
On October 2, the 1858 San Diego Hurricane caused heavy damage in southern California.
On November 21, a cyclone was reported at a location of 21°N 174°W.
1870 Pacific hurricane season
From September 21 to September 24, German shipping logs reported a tropical cyclone, with a path running northwest from near 17°N 141°W to close to the Big Island to near 19°N; 160°W.
1871 Pacific hurricane season
On July 10, a storm of unknown strength was encountered by the USS Jamestown. There were a moderate gale, rain, squalls, diving barometer, choppy seas, and winds that changed direction in a counter clockwise manner.
On August 8, a severe cyclones storm struck Hawaii. Heavy rains flooded a plantation on the Big Island, causing around $5000 (1871 dollars) in damage. Trees were blown down. On Maui, there was considerable damage to trees and buildings.
